Biocon’s Liraglutide Injection
Biocon’s Liraglutide Injection, an FDA‑approved generic version of Victoza® (liraglutide) injection, has the same active ingredient as Victoza® and functions just like Victoza®.
It is used along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar (glucose) in adults and pediatric patients aged 10 years and older with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, including cardiovascular death, non‑fatal myocardial infarction, or non‑fatal stroke, in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.
Who may be prescribed liraglutide injection?
Liraglutide injection is an injectable prescription medicine used as an adjunct to diet and exercise in the following patients:
- Adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control.
- Pediatric patients aged 10 years and older with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control.
- Adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events.
It is NOT for everyone:
- It is not known if liraglutide injection is safe and effective to lower blood sugar in children under 10 years of age.
- It is not recommended for people who also take liraglutide or other medicines called glucagon‑like peptide‑1 (GLP‑1) receptor agonists.
- It is not recommended to use liraglutide injection if you or any of your family members have ever had a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
